Christmas was declared a federal holiday in the United States on June 26, 1870 but the origin of the celebration is a long and interesting tale with roots back to ancient societies with pagan traditions celebrating the winter equinox.

Presenter Sean Murphy, an Irish historian, will also include some information on the celebration of Christmas in Ireland and will incorporate recorded music and video to create a holiday friendly atmosphere.
