Did you know that the most popular musical entertainers in America once hailed from Milford, New Hampshire? Not the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, or Taylor Swift but the Hutchinson Family Singers! Judson, Abby, John, and Asa Hutchinson were an internationally famous quartet who developed a uniquely American style of music with a message. The Hutchinsons controversially championed many social causes of the 1840s including women’s rights, temperance, and especially abolitionism.
Marcia Nelson and Charlie Annand, co-chairs of a grassroots effort to create a public memorial to the group, will describe the quartet’s rise to fame and their incredible contributions to the musical, cultural, and political history of the United States.
