Guided by original source material in Celia Thaxter's book, An Island Garden, which was published in 1894, The Shoals Marine Laboratory recreated her garden in the same rocky spot overlooking the ocean. Learn about the challenge of nurturing and adding to the collection of heirloom plants and flowers while preserving the history of the garden and the island.

Speaker Marie Nickerson, is a National Resources Steward, a NH Master Gardener, and a UNH Marine Docent. Marie describes her role as former steward and current support for the crew of Celia Thaxter's Garden on Appledore Island, on the Isles of Shoals as "the privilege and the opportunity of a lifetime."
